We spent Christmas Eve at my brothers house. My parents catered Macayos for dinner. Can I say that Mexican on Christmas Eve is now my new favorite thing! I hope it's a new tradition. We ate, played reindeer games, and opened presents. We were all a little skeptical of the reindeer games but they actually turned out to be really funny. Next year, I'm going to beat Matt & Scott since they just cheat :)
On Christmas day we spent with Jordan's family. In the morning, we opened presents and lounged around. Santa brought Carson a bike and a ..... turtle!! No, not a real turtle but a cute dream lite turtle that the shell lights up at night as a nitelight. Santa had to get creative with that request, and it is actually a really cool thing, and he loves having it on at night when he goes to bed. Carson was excited and eager to ride his new bike all around out front. He did so well. They had their annual big tradition Christmas dinner with friends and family.
One of these years I will get around to sending out a cute Christmas card because I really want to! I just seem to get so busy right before - and it never gets accomplished. So for a yearly update on the Shields: this year we lived with Jordan's parents and Carson had a blast making milkshakes with Grandpa almost every night, enjoying bath time is their huge tub, and excitingly greeting the missionaries who came over to be set apart or released which seemed like weekly - he loved the missionaries and insisted he be the door greeter for them. Jordan continues to work for his dad in Mesquite and loves it. He also continued to do home inspections on the side. In church he served as the teacher's quorum advisor and was deemed the cool leader, that somehow landed him a new calling mid-way through the year as the 2nd Counselor in the Stake Young Men's. Jennifer started the year substituting as a long term sub in 3rd grade, then was able to become a "stay-at-home-mom" to Carson come May, just in time to have little miss Brynlee arrive in July! She still does legal billing from home on the side and sub occassionally for teacher friends. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School to the 16-18 year olds, until being called as the Relief Society Secretary in the fall. This year was one of our hardest yet, but looking back was filled with so many blessings, it's hard not to give credit to Heavenly Father for having a hand in the details. We're grateful for the Savior this holiday season, and the many blessings we've received. I'm excited for what's to come in 2013!
