It’s fun hanging out with friends and family at the cabin. It’s become a tradition that I love with the Shields family and can’t wait to have little ones to take up there too. It can be wild and crazy with so much going on all at once, but never a dull moment. We seriously sit around and laugh the entire weekend. And if anyone knows Zack, he never disappoints in the entertainment department.
Sunday morning was the Shields big Easter egg hunt and then we all gathered for Terri’s lesson on the resurrection. I love this time of year to learn of our Saviors love for us. That he suffered and died for our sins, that we can all return to live with him again.
We left the mountain in time to go to Easter dinner with my family. My mom is all about tradition. I’ve noticed over the past couple years, everything she does and why she does it, is because of tradition or that’s just how its always done. We’ve never lived by her family in Texas and I think that’s one of the reasons why. She’s tried to incorporate things that they do with us growing up. Last night was the explanation of Easter dinner:
- last time she serves cranberry salad until Thanksgiving.
- traditionally ham is to be served for Easter but when we were little she explained she couldn’t afford to buy a ham so she cooked what they had on hand at the time: barbequed chicken. And ever since, we’ve always had barbeque chicken for Easter.
- she serves potato salad with peas, cold.
deviled eggs. - and for dessert, Easter is the start of serving of graham cracker crust, cream cheese filling with strawberries throughout the summer.
