Honored.

Camp Stimson is a private LDS girls' camp located on Mount Charleston. I've attended this camp as a youth and leader, and if you are from the Las Vegas Valley, there's a good chance you've attended it as well. Over the last several years the camp has been undergoing major improvements. If you've ever attended or toured Camp Heber Valley in Utah, one thing that stands out is how all the camp sites are named after valiant women in the church. One of the renovations of Camp Stimson was to imitate Camp Heber and name each of the numbered camp sites after not only valiant women from the history of the church but women from the valley. We had the opportunity to attend a reception honoring the women that were prayerfully chosen for each of the camp sites. Camp Site 8 was named after my mother-in-law, Terri. It was such a nice reception and such an honor to these wonderful women, a few I've met over the years. She is such a great example to me of a dedicated member of this church, and valiant servant to the Lord and this honor is definitely well deserved.

 

 

I don't remember specifically the other camps in reference to their numbers but I know the first 6 camps were named after influential women in the church such as Emma Smith, Frances Monson, Marjorie Hinckley, Mary Elizabeth Rollins, Camille Kimball, and Elise Snow. The remaining camps were named after: Ginger Ewell, Alice Houston, Bonnie Waite, Avonell Woods, Nancy Stephens, Janette Smith, and Carolyn Sudweeks. The upper amphitheater was also named after Gary Halverson. And Howard Bulloch was recognized as a special monetary donor to many of improvements to Camp Stimson.
